لبخند سبز - کلیسای زیبای ارتدکس یونانی ایا تریادانه که بزرگترین کلیسای ارتدکس یونانی استانبول هست در سال 1880 میلادی ساخته شده و هنوز هم مورد استفاده اقلیت یونانی ساکن در این شهر قرار می‌گیرد.
این کلیسا که در جوار میدان تقسیم قرار گرفته و گنبد آن را به وضوح میتوان از میدان تقسیم دید، از اولین کوچه خیابان استقلال به راحتی قابل دسترسی است و بازدید از آن قطعا خالی از لطف نیست.

واژه کلیسای ارتدکس یونانی (به یونانی:Ἑλληνορθόδοξη Ἑκκλησία ) دو معنا دارد. معنای وسیع‌تر «کل بدنه مسیحیت ارتدوکس (کلسدونی) را که گاهی «ارتدوکس شرقی»، «کاتولیک یونانی» یا عموماً «کلیسای یونانی» نیز نامیده می‌شود، نشان می‌دهد. معنای محدودتر به «هر یک از چندین کلیسای مستقل در جامعه جهانی مسیحیت ارتدوکس [شرق] که استفاده از زبان یونانی را در محیط‌های کلیسایی رسمی حفظ می‌کند» را نشان می‌دهد.

The imperial capital, Constantinople, was an important early center of Christianity, and its religious practices, traditions, and teachings were gradually adopted throughout Eastern Orthodoxy, and still provide the basic patterns of contemporary Orthodoxy. Thus, Eastern Orthodox were called "Greek" Orthodox in the same way that Western Christians were called "Roman" Catholic. However, the name "Greek" was abandoned by the Church Slavonic and other Eastern Orthodox churches as part of the national awakening of their peoples, beginning in the early 10th century AD. Thus, in the early 21st century, generally only the churches most closely associated with Greek or Byzantine culture and ethnicity were commonly called "Greek Orthodox".

Greek Orthodoxy is also defined as a religious tradition rooted in the preservation of Greek identity.
